Menifee Rotary Helps Habitat Spruce Up Homes

The Rotary Club of Menifee recently joined forces with Inland Valley Habitat for Humanity to begin working on one of several homes that Habitat is revitalizing in Menifee.

On December 29, 2011, The California Supreme Court ended redevelopment (RDA) in California and, in the process, wiped out a significant funding source for Habitat for Humanity (HFH) affiliates in California and throughout the entire affordable housing community. Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser Features “QuickDraw” Event

Murrieta, CA—More than 60 guests from the Temecula Valley gathered Saturday, November 12th at the Bear Creek Country Club home of Jim and Shelly Harris for a Pre-Holiday Open House to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Murrieta Artist Mike Miller was on hand to perform a “QuickDraw” demonstration during which he transformed a blank canvass into a finished and framed painting in less than an hour. The 16” x 24” watercolor featured a mountain stream scene, and was completed in 47 minutes as guests watched the process and discussed painting techniques with Miller.
Once on display, the painting was made available for purchase in a silent auction, and was won by attendees Tip and Carla Jozsa of San Diego. All proceeds from the auction went to Habitat for Humanity. Miller is active in the Temecula Valley Art League and the Friday Pein Aire Painter’s group. His submission for the Habitat for Humanity Christmas Tree, currently on display in the Temecula Promenade Mall, won an art contest. The artwork will be featured on the Habitat for Humanity holiday ornaments for sale in 2012. Other samples of his work can be viewed at www.mikemillerart.com.
Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley Celebrates the Season with Tree Extravaganza & Opportunity Drawing
Inland Valley nonprofit hosts holiday tree display and drawing at Promenade Temecula

Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley is pleased to announce their 4th Annual ‘Home for the Holidays’ Tree Extravaganza at Promenade Temecula, beginning on Friday, November 11, 2011. Several dozen professionally designed trees will be on display and available to win through an opportunity drawing on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Opportunity Tickets will be available with a suggested donation of $1 each.
Professional designer, Jill Christen, from Christen Custom Designs, will decorate the majority of the trees, all of which have different themes and are sponsored by area businesses. Local artist Gabriele Baber has been working for months with other artists in creating a specially themed tree, decorated with over 60 pieces of art from local artists. Tree sponsors include Tri-Lakes Sportswear, Paradise Chevrolet Cadillac, Van Avery Prep, Kids World, Pacific Western Bank, California Bank & Trust and Brighton Collectibles.
Chairperson Christine McCusker says, “To me this event represents the magic of Christmas and the importance of community. Every year literally thousands of people of all walks of life come out to support us knowing their contributions will support those who need us the most! Plus, they each have a chance at winning one of these amazing trees. If nothing else, come down and see it for yourself – kids and adults alike will be mesmerized by the fun and festivity of each unique creation!”

Habitat Partners with Local Groups to Build Home at Southern California Fair

As part of the commemoration of the City of Perris’ Centennial, the City has entered into a partnership with the Inland Valley Habitat for Humanity, Perris Rotary, and the Southern California Fair to develop a single family home for sale to an income qualified family. The Perris Centennial home will be framed and prepped on the grounds of the Southern California fair during the annual run of the fair in October 2011. After the fair, the home will be moved to a Redevelopment Agency owned property in downtown Perris and construction of the unit will be completed on the site. The purpose of this project is to promote the City’s Centennial celebration during the fair and serve as the first project to be funded using a portion of the City’s grant award from the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP 3). The proposed home will feature 3 bedrooms, covering 1,088 square feet, with a detached garage.
Habitat Calls for Volunteers and Houses in Need of Repair

“The Helping Hands program has been rejuvenated and expanded to work with families’ whose homes need exterior work and small repairs. Our goal is to lift up particular neighborhoods that are in need,” Marine said.
Marine said homeowners can receive help with exterior painting, weed abatement, trash disposal, small repairs, and even some additional projects like minor handicap construction.

Local Church Gives Habitat a Helping Hand

“Between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., more than 260 volunteers from the Church, Habitat For Humanity Inland Valley and the Rotary Club of Murrieta spent more than 1,400 volunteer hours mowing lawns, weeding and painting houses.
Seven houses were painted, more than 400 bags of trash were collected and removed, and more than 200 packs of seeds planted for flowers.”
